As Hollywood would have you believe, computer usage is universal and everyone on the world speaks English. Take the 1996 action thriller “Independence Day” starring Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum. At one point Will Smith flies into the aliens’ mother ship where Jeff Goldblum uploads a virus into the aliens’ computers, thus disabling the ship’s force field and allowing the human race to attain victory over the invading aliens. Software that used to work on an older version of Windows will not work on a new version, why would Earth software work on an alien spacecraft?

Furthermore, Hollywood would have you believe that everyone on the whole world speaks English. In pretty much every movie the premise is that if you speak slowly enough, the other person will understand. Just to put things in perspective, the total number of languages in the world is between 5,000 and 10,000. I will admit that English is amongst the best-known languages out there, but if the person you’re talking to did not understand you from the beginning, talking at a slower rate will not do you any good.

Speaking of the multitude of languages out there, I would like to shift focus to one in particular: Armenian. It is the language spoken by some 3.3 million people according to estimates from 2008. This Armenian Dictionary Software-developed software application that weighs in at little over 13MB does just what the name implies – it installs Armenian fonts for you to use on your Windows-powered machine.

There are more than 250 Armenian fonts for you to choose from. You can go for just one font, or you can go for the whole lot and install all 250. They are all quite good looking. I don’t speak or read Armenian, but I liked what I saw.
